Letter #28: Happiness.

My sweet family..

It has been yet another great week!
Valmira and Aferdita were role playing as missionaries!
So cuteee.. We switched roles.
I was the investigator and they were the
missionaries teaching me about the Book of Mormon.
Both of them would make the most incredible missionaries!
I don't mean to sound cliche but things are really just going so well for us these past couple of weeks. I think it is all due to the fact that we found 3 golden contacts!! These people have literally been hand-prepared by the Lord. Pajtim is doing better than ever.. We have been really focusing all of our efforts on him lately because he is so ready his quick progress is inevitable! He soaks up every ounce of everything we tell him like a sponge and he comes to everything thats goes on at the church and even comes and plays sports with us in the morning. Every morning we have started playing sports with many investigators and members that feel like waking up at 6 am and we always have such a good turn-out surprisingly. Albanians love their sleep, but their sacrifice it to come and have a good time playing with everyone! He has become such great friends with people in the church including Besim, Gjon, etc.. This week we have been keeping daily contact with him and helping him to live the Word of Wisdom. He has got it all figured out and this week he told us that coffee has become a thing of the past and he has little desire for it now! Can I get a "OH YEAH!" OH YEAH BABY!!!! He is so happy lately and is always smiling and laughing.. He also told us, "I really think the Mormon Church promotes great things and I am excited to keep learning more." He is just the best. There is not much more I can say about him, other than he rocks! And we love him!

This week we had an insane lesson. It was with Pajtim and Dafina, Aferdita, and Valmira was there to help us! So basically it was like a combined lesson. It turned out to be absolutely insane. We got completely off our original topic and both Pajtim and Dafina were asking so many questions that were just way too much for them to handle. We kept switching back from Albanian to English, English to Albanian, and I was praying so hard the whole time that they would understand and feel the Spirit soften their hearts and answer their questions. In the end...2 1/2 hours later... goodness it was wayyy too long...  we basically pulled it all back to the Book of Mormon. If the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith is a true Prophet, and all of the other answers can be answered through that book because it is the true Word of God. In the end, I really do feel that the Spirit came in and gave a final impression on everyone. It was a really special moment. Although i would never replay the lesson again, I think it was good and necessary to base their testimonies on the Book of Mormon.

Me and my girls.. Aren't they the cutest?
Lately Sister Robertson and I have gotten so close to Dafina and Aferdita. They come and play with us every morning, and we see them both several times in the day, so naturally we have gotten really close. This closeness is unlike anything that I have ever felt before. They are like my older sisters away from home! haha. I know that I will be great friends with both of these two for the rest of my life. They are such amazing girls and it has been such a pleasure to be on their spiritual journey with them. Both of them are growing so much. Little by little, their faith grows and is strengthened. Because of them, my faith has been strengthened as well.

Missionary models :)
I have learned so much this week. More than ever, I am realizing more and more each day the main purpose of this wonderful gospel.. HAPPINESS. The Gospel of Jesus Christ brings pure happiness, joy and love in this life. And not just happiness in this life, but for all eternity. I have such a strong testimony of this gospel and I thank the Lord for it every single day because it has brought me and my family so much happiness in our lives. Hasn't it family?! I am so grateful for my family and I could not be more pumped to spend the rest of eternity with them! What a blessing! This knowledge is such a beautiful knowledge. Like

Dafina has said to us before, "It's too good to be true.." BUT IT IS TRUE! And this is the best part. We can partake of its blessings ourselves just by accepting Christ's invitations to come unto him and acting upon them. Faith without works is dead. Without showing our faith through our actions, we can never recieve the witness that these things are true. God promises all of his children that if they ask, they will recieve! That's all we have to do to recieve happiness! How beautiful and simple these things are. I am so grateful to be a part of this great work. I know the Lord is moving His work forward here in Prishtina. I witness little changes each day that are evidence that the Lord is working here. He is preparing people for us. Although it may be difficult to weed through the die-hard radical Muslims, people wanting passports to America, and people unwilling to change, I know that there are people out there that are ready for this divine message!

I love all of you faithful readers.. I hope I shared something that gave a little light to brigthen the rest of your week!

I love you family.. You are the best family in the world. Never forget it.

love your missionary,

Motra Forte xoxo

Letter #27: Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo...

Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo...

Oh my dearly beloved.
The baptism!!!!!
It was absolutely breathtaking..
I am sure the water was for them as well! hahaha.
I come to you at the beginning of this new and promising week to tell you of the many wonderful things that are happening over in the Balkan countries of the European Continent. A marvelous work is about the come forth among the children of men. Many miracles are unfolding. Many works are giving way. Not the mention on Saturday, July the 20th, our branch had its first baptism all year, and the first baptism in 7 whole months! What a beautiful baptism it was indeed! haha. Okay, I can't keep this serious any longer! Missionary work is so awesome!!! Everything is happening at this time and it is getting the ball rolling to more and more successes!
THE CUTE COUPLE AFTER THE BAPTISM!
Us girlies after the baptism!
Sonila Cehu, 19, was baptized by her newly wedded husband, Kristo Cehu, 20, on the beautiful July afternoon, in Bardovac Lake close to the city of Graqonica! It was so incredible to be able to watch the baptism and feel of the divine priesthood power that was demostrated. We had 3 of our investigators there to witness it, along with many members, and I know that each of them felt something special. Pajtim, Dafina, and Aferdita were all there, and it was their first baptism to ever experience! Pajtim was so ecstatic and asking so many questions like, "So when I am baptised I have to wear one of those funny outfits as well?" Sister Robertson asked him how he felt after the ordinance and he said, "I felt a little emotional. It is really cool how she now can be clean from her sins!" How amazing is this work. Leading by example is the way to get this work moving. Dardania was glowing after the baptism and although she may still have thousands more questions to ask before she commits to anything, I AM SURE SHE FELT THE HOLY GHOST!!! I am so glad we were able to get all of them to the baptism! This is reminding me of an awesome scripture!! Its D&C 127:17

The Group at the lake just before the baptism!
I have my arm around Kristi's mother, the mother in law of Sonila!
17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us acheerfully bdo all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the csalvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.

Just like it says, we must do all things that lie in our power, cheerfully, like get them to the baptism, and then the Lord will do the rest! This is His work and He will help us to accomplish His tasks!!! Lets just say, the flame inside me has been kindled and is burning bright. burn baby burn!  I am so motivated to find more people to make this amazing 1st covenant with their Heavenly Father!

We have some incredible things happening around these parts. This baptism is just opening up the flood gates and soon people will be lining up to be baptized! hahaha. Right now, we have 3 baptism dates set and I am really excited!
Lets start from the beginning: (its a very good place to start..)

Here is us and Pajtim! We will be back here with him soon!!!!
FOR HIS OWN!!!!
Pajtim: About 3 weeks ago, we had an exchange with the Sister Trainer Leaders and I got to spend the day with Sister Molifua. She is adorable by the way. So we were on the Boulevard for about an hour and a half and up walks this kinda awkward tall man, he looks down at the Book of Mormon we were holding, took a few steps to the side of us, pulls out his phone, pretends to open a text of some sort, then he made a complete loop around us, and came right back to speak with us! hahaha. It was hilarious! We got to talking to him and he was so intereseted about what our religion included. He first posed his idea of religions being like political parties, but now after having taught him for 2.5 weeks, we have definitely changed his mind! He is incredible. First off, he speaks such great english and insists that we teach him in it, and second, he is a human-sponge and soaks up every once of information that we give him! This past week we just committed him to live the Word of Wisdom and the Law of Chastity! He told us that he is coming the an understanding of the of these truths and feels a comfort about everything he has learned! He explained to him that those feelings of comfort and understanding come from the Holy Ghost. He got a big smile on his face and kept asking more and more questions about the Holy Ghost. He is like a hunger little child that just wants more and more chicken nuggets and fries!!! It is the best thing ever to teach someone that wants to learn and is just so evidently ready for the Gospel in their life! I have no doubt in my mind that Pajtim was prepared by the hand of the Lord. He is ready! After seeing the baptism, he is getting so excited and gearing up for his own baptism! There is nothing holding him back!
Sister Robertson and me at the lake!

Hana & Valerjan: This past week we were unable to meet with them because they were out of town, but Hana came to church by herself and is still planning on being baptized we just have to change the date because their vaca got us off of our teaching schedule! They both are so amazing and willing to do whatever is necessary that the Lord expects of them! I am excited to teach them this week to get them up and going again! Its always a little bummer when you have great momentum in the teaching, and then it gets halted! Its not a problem though, we will get them up to speed in no time!

Prishtina sunsets!!
This Sunday was the Prishtina Branch's 1st Annual Branch Conference ever and President Ford and his counselor of the mission came up along with the whole group down in Gjakova, all of our members, investigators, and a few soldiers! It was such an empowering feeling to have so many faithful people gathered in one place learning the same beautiful gospel although we were spewing out into the hallway! haha. Our numbers are growing! What a great problem to have! The Spirit was very strong throughout the meeting and it was very strengthening for each and every one of the people there! Sister Robertson and I taught Primary and our lesson was on missionary work! All 6 of us missionaries, including the Gjakova Elders, taught them the song, "I hope they call me on a mission" in Albanian and of course they had never heard it before! They absolutely loved it! It is so cool to introduce these little children to the things that we grew up with our whole lives! Sister Jones, being the super woman she is, made lunch for everyone there! And there was just enough for everyone to leave with full bellies!!! She is the best. Sunday was a succecss!
Our Rockin' District just before the battle. (classic)
ps. Last Monday, our entire district got together and went paintballing! hahaha. Yeah talk about a blast and a half! It was probably borderlining some serious lines, but it was district leader approved, so we went! And boy, can I just say, BEST DISTRICT BONDING ACTIVITY EVER! It was such a fun time! One of the courses had 2 double decker buses that you could hide in as bunkers and it was so rad! Haha. Right before I got shot right in the mouth through my mask.. haha. Sheesh.. I was spitting out orange paint for 10 minutes!

This week is going to be a good one, I can feel it! I hope you all have a beautiful week as well and that all is going well for you!
love youuuu to piecessss!

Love,
Motra Forte

Letter #26: Rejoice Evermore :)

My beautiful people of the American continent, and apparently all around the world wherever you might be reading this...

Can I just start out by saying. I love this work. I love being a missionary. Missionary work is so incredible. It literally changes lives. Little by little, seeing this changes take place in the people I teach, I am able to see the power, first-hand, that the Lord has. He is the director of his divine work, and he is hastening it people!!!! Sheesh.

This week I read D&C 88: 73-75... and it says..

73 Behold, I will ahasten my work in its time.
 74 And I give unto you, who are the first alaborers in this last kingdom, a commandment that you assemble yourselves together, and organize yourselves, and prepare yourselves, and bsanctify yourselves; yea, purify your hearts, and ccleanse your hands and your feet before me, that I may make you dclean;
75 That I may testify unto your aFather, and your God, and mybGod, that you are clean from the cblood of this wicked generation; that I may fulfil this promise, this great and last dpromise, which I have made unto you, when I will.

How amazing is that? This is the time that the Lord is hastening His work. And we are His missionaries and in the front lines, gathering His lost children, from the scattered tribes of Israel. His chosen people that are being prepared at this very time to receive these divine things in there life! ITS UNBELIEVABLE.
Facemask time baby!!! HAHA.
You gotta end a long hard day at work with a little mud on your face :)
I hope all is going well at home. Your vacation sounded absolutely fabulous and I hope you had a great time
This week was hard. It was amazing. But it was hard. Let me give you some background. So this month is the month of fast called Ramadan, when the Muslim Religion fasts all day from sun up to sun down, then feasts all night until the next day! This is what we are dealing with people. Basically, everyone that is fasting, will not even look in the direction of our table set up on the boulevard, because they are to focus on the words of the Koran, cleanse themselves of all evil and come closer to the Spirit of Allah. All of these things are great fabulous ways of showing their faith. It is all great in principle. BUT. It is lacking the most important part. JESUS CHRIST. Our Savior, Lord, and Redeemer. These people are so ignorant and have no idea that it is through Jesus Christ that we are saved. They take away his role completely and pray in the Mosques 5 times a day, to forgive THEMSELVES! Do you see the problem here?! It is my job as a missionary here to help these people to realize that only through Jesus Christ can we inherit eternal life! One day, they will all know it. Its just a matter of time.
So as you can see, with the month of Ramadan (Ramazan) in Albanian, these people are pretty much walking around with blinders, and it is very difficult to find anyone to teach. We have had tons of lessons "prish"ed (cancelled) this week because of this special month, and so we are trying to keep our heads up and keep pressing forward!
Funny story. On Wednesday, we actually talked to a man whose name was Ramadan. Yep. Thats just about as Muslim as it gets! hahaha.
Looking over Prizren last p day!!!! Such a blast! :)
Okay, now for the amazing part of the week. My little love, Arberesha, who we have been meeting since my trainer found her and contacted her at Albi market across the street from our church, she wanted to meet with us this week! So we met with her and talked all about her and where she was at Spiritually. She told us that she had received that feeling that we had been talking about. That strong feeling of the spirit testifying to you about the Book of Mormon, and she told us she knows without a doubt that it is true. She told us that she knows she will be baptized at some time, she just doesn't know for sure yet when. She feels like she doesn't have enough strength and courage to be baptized yet. She still has a few things to work out and then, in the due time of the Lord, she will be baptized. What a beautiful event it was to hear her say those words and to see that the power of the Spirit made itself manifest in her heart. She knows that it is true. I told her, "Arberesha, just promise me waiting for baptism won't make you forget about your answer!" She said to me, "Forte, I will never forget. I can never forget those feelings. They are deep in my heart now and I can never deny it!" I was feeling the spirit so incredibly strong in our meeting this week. I love her. I love her desire to want to be 100% ready for baptism. Because when she finally commits, she will never, ever, fall away!
My cutie little companion enjoying the rain storm!
Totally candid!
We also taught our Shtufi family family at the beginning of this week and they are progessing! They are reading the Book of Mormon and loved the Plan of Salvation that we taught. They really are a special family and I am honored to be teaching such amazing people. They are out of town this week for summer vacation, so we are having to push back their baptism date, because we wont be able to meet them, but keep praying for them!
Our other progressing investigator, Pajtim, is doing so awesome. He finally kept his commitment and read a few chapters in the Book of Mormon. We watched the Restoration movie with him and he loved it. He said, "wow, now I have such a better understanding of how Joseph Smith felt when he was looking for the truth, because I am doing the same thing now!" I absolutely love when these people have their "ah-ha!" moments, because I can't give that to them! Those are all possible through the spirit! :)
So even though this week, not many things went on, we didn't find many people, and our investigator pool is stagnant, we have so many little miracles to be grateful for. Today I read one of my favorite, most simple passage from the Bible in Thesalonnians 5:16. All says two simple words that clearly dictate the attitude that we must have when we have challenges: "Rejoice evermore!"
I love that. That's all we have to do. We have all been given so much and we have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. We have many things to rejoice about! The Church is true. God loves each and every one of us and I know without a doubt he hears and answers each of our prayers. Let us rejoice and be grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives!
All of my love,
Your favorite missionary,
Sister Shauntel Louise Forte

Letter #25: I need to live in a plastic bubble.

Its a beautiful day in Kosovo today!
The skies are so blue and the sun is a'shinin! I love it here. Really, I do.
A few more from the group on the 4th celebrating Aferdita's Birthday!

How are things in the  good ol' US?! I bet your 4th of July celebration wasn't as good as ours! haha. This week was such a fabulous week. We did a lot of finding. So many new souls in our clientele that are progressing so quickly..
The after-party! haha.
We found this amazing guy named Pajtim. He is 29 years old and really just wants to know the truth. Funny story about him. So we were contacting on the Boulevard and he walked passed very slowly.. lingered on the side of us for a minute, looked down at his phone as if he received a message, then walked a circle around us, and FINALLY came up and talked to us! It was so funny. He came up and talked to us about the Book of Mormon. He had SO many questions it was fabulous! He told us his theory about religion and this is what he said, "Religions are like political parties that stir up hate towards other religions." We were able to meet with him two days later and we quickly changed his idea on this. We told him that the Gospel of Jesus Christ does just the opposite. It brings us the most peace, comfort, and happiness, spreading love across the world. He ate up every word we said about the Restoration. He asked very detailed questions such as, "So if I choose to become a member tomorrow, how will I know that this Mormon's Book is true?"
What a fabulous question! Are you serious? The Lord has really outdone himself this time. This man is so great and he is so prepared. We taught him the Plan of Salvation last night and committed him to prepare for baptism on the 27th of July! Heck yeah baby. It is such a beautiful thing the watch the Spirit work on these people. I know he knows these things are true.
So if you didn't know already, I am the biggest clutz and I totally ate it
two days ago while we were playing soccer in the morning with our Kosovars!
Sheesh. Its a bit painful. OUCHY. Just as I am getting over my sickness.
Goodness. I need to live in a plastic bubble.
Then another fabulous thing.. We finally met with Hana Shtufi and her husband. And yes, I just found out her name is in fact Hana, not Hene. Sorry for the miscommunication! haha. It was such a great meeting. Both of them were so attentive and are really in such a humbled state. They are willing to do anything the Lord wants of them to find help that they need for their daughter. We explained that as they do the things that the Lords wants of them, He will bless their life and provide a way for them to help their daughter. In the end of our lesson, Sister Jones felt inspired to offer to send their X-rays of their daughter's legs to her son who is a doctor in America. Their eyes welled up with tears as they felt like this was an answer to their prayers. They were so excited and had a glimpse of hope for their daughter. We told them that sometimes we are given challenges and trials to bring us to the knowledge of the truth. I have no doubt that this is true. I believe that we found the Shtufi family for a reason. They are so prepared and need the Lord's help as this difficult time in their life. In the end of the lesson, we commited The husband, Valerjan, to be baptized on July 19th with Hana and he accepted. They came to church on Sunday as a family and dressed up to the nines! It was the best thing. Her hair was all done up and he was in nice slacks and a white shirt!
We had a 4th of July BBQ on the 5th of July and it was such a success! Everyone loved trying their first American burger and really had a good time. Aferdita told me, "This is my first American BBQ! I have only seen them on movies!" Afterwards, we taught them to line dance and played fun American music to introduce them to American culture. Such a great time. Many of them didn't get it and didn't join in, then the second we started playing traditional Albanian music, everyone hopped up and joined in their funny circle dances together. I wish I could explain how funny it really is! I love the culture here. It is so different really.
Ahhhh, so here we are at the beginning of a new week! I hope it goes as well as last week! I love you all and hope you are having a fabulous summer! Get some sun for me will ya? Have any fun Powell trips planned? If so, don't tell me about them.. haha. Just teasing!

love love love you.

Letter #24: The first day of July :)

Its July 1st!!!
HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY DOMI!!!!!!!!
one year older and wiser too, happy birthday to you!

Also Happy birthday Auntie Jillie!!! :) Today is a day full of celebration! Guess who else's birthday it is today? My companion, Sister Robertson's!!!! Crazy right?

This is in the spot where the Dedicatory Prayer was offered by
Elder Russell M. Nelson. It was my first time being back from my first week
in Kosovo! So gorgeous there :)
We went up to Gremia Park today and visited the spot where Elder Nelson dedicated the land of Kosovo for missionary Service and we read the dedicatory prayer as well! It really has a special feeling up there and the blessings that Elder Nelson bestows upon the Kosovar people are absolutely beautiful. Lately this week, we have been discussing a lot the "Gathering of Israel". Here in Kosovo there is a lot of the blood Israel here and our job is to get out and find them!
What a beautiful responsibility. Its kinda all hitting me how great my mission is. I feel so honored that the Lord is entrusting me with this little patch of His vineyard.

We had a baby shower for one of our members Arberesha this week
who is just about ready to pop! She is massive.. hahaha.
It was so much fun because they don't celebrate baby showers here!
Me and Sister Robertson made her a diaper cake and she loved it!
At least some of my random skills are coming in handy!
haha. Arberesha was so excited and appreciative!
This week I have been a little under the weather.. I had a little sore throat that turned into a terrible sore throat that kept me up through the night. I went to the American Hospital, which is basically just a fancy clinic (by Albanian standards) ran by all Kosovars. I got a swab test for strep and still haven't heard back. haha. So pointless. Luckily Dr. Swenson, the doctor over Adriatic South Mission in Germany, prescribed me some antibiotic and I am getting better! Then over the past few days I have had fever, achey chills, on top of a head cold. SUCKS. Let's just say missionary work is very hard to do when you aren't all there. It is very difficult to serve with your heart, might, mind, and strength when you can't think straight and your head is so stuffed up you feel like it just might explode.. Sheesh. But the Lord has for sure blessed us this week regardless!

Here is a blurry pic of the group!
We had so much fun and tied blankets for Arberesha to keep!
I  love all of my Kosovar beauties :)
At the beginning of the week, a miracle happened. As I told you last week, Arberesha, my favorite investigator/dry member, contacted this girl who was waiting at the church looking for the missionaries and wondering how she could be baptized. We met with her that night and it was such a fabulous lesson. Not only was the Spirit so strong, Arberesha taught about half the lesson and testified about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. HALLELUJAH!!!!!! I cannot even express to you how incredibly happy I was. I couldn't hold back my smile and Arberesha knew it. She was incredible. I think she may have even surprised herself to how amazing her testimony was as well. Afterwards she was beaming. The light of Christ was just exuding from her eyes and she just seemed so happy helping this woman understand the truthfullness of this Gospel! Ahhh. that was such a proud moment for me.

Then, that night, another miracle happened. Dardania  our other eternal dry member taught Family Home Evening and it was such a great lesson on Friendship and how Jesus Christ should be our best friend. She bore a beautiful testimony in the end .. (here comes the good part).. and closed in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!!!!!! AHHHH TALK ABOUT A MIRACLE. Dardania met the Elders 8 months ago and has refused to ever close any prayers in the name of Jesus Christ because she didn't have enough faith in Him as her Savior. After her lesson, I congratulated her on her lesson and said to her.. "Dardania.. That was the most beautiful thing!! You closed your testimony in the name of Jesus Christ! How did that feel?"
Me and my cute Sister Robertson :)
She paused for a second.. Looked down at her feet, got a HUGE smile on her face, looked up at me again and said, "Amazing!"
This is at this gorgeous look out over Prishtina
at the top of Gremia! Perfect day.
AHHHH. Lets just say that was the proudest day of my mission so far. It couldn't have been any better! My two favorite girls, Dardania and Arberesha proved to me, and their Heavenly Father, that they have faith in Christ and Faith in this Gospel. ALL THEY NEED IS TO BE BAPTIZED AND MAKE THE JUMP!!!! I am really praying to have the Lord help me to have patience and have faith in His timing, but THEY ARE READY!!!! I pray that the Lord with open up an opportunity for me to invite them both to baptism.. again!

Let's just say, although I haven't been able to do much finding this week, there was no need because the people came and found us!
two nights ago, this adorable Catholic girl came in to ask if she could borrow our phone to call her sister. She had to wait for her sister to come meet her at the church, so in the mean time, we took advantage of the situation and taught her about the Book of Mormon! Her sister came shortly after and we talked to both of them about how together with the Bible, we have the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Both of them were completely awe-struck! Both of them were very devout and knew a lot about the bible and at first were a little hesitant in even the consideration of another book along with the Bible. Sister Robertson being completely inspired started discussing how the Christ speaks about the Book of Mormon in the Bible and she shared John 10:16 and cross referenced it to 3 Nephi 15: 21-24! It was the most powerful thing. Both of these girls were amazing and asked, "Why haven't we ever heard of this book before? Where has this book been?"
We answered back, "The Church has only been in Kosovo for a 2 years, but now God has blessed you with this opportunity to learn about this book!" They both took a copy and told us they would read it!

Opening my package from Mom and Dad!!!
Ahhhh. It made my whole month! :)
That experience in and of itself, is a witness to me that the Lord is moving His work forward. Although I have been sick all week and haven't had much strength to find people, it was no matter because the Lord led His prepared children right to us! Right to the church! I am so grateful to be a tool in the Lord's hands. No matter the circumstances, the work will go forward and His word will go forth! I have such a strong testimony of the Savior. I am so grateful for how much I have been able to get to know Him and ultimately strengthen my relationship with Him!

I love you all so much and I am so grateful for all of your love and support week after week!
I hope the summer weather is treating you nice! Lay out and get some sun for me will ya?
Love you forever,

Sister Forte :)
